Re-Gifting in The Giver

This blog is intended for an educational exerise for EDM 510 at the University of South Alabama

Class, this week we have been reading The Giver.  In the sixth chapter, the community gives a family a "replacement child."  The boy in the family had drowned the previous year, and the family was given a new baby with the same name to replace him.  Everyone in the community, including the family, was happy with this and felt that the problem was solved.  This is a feature that keeps coming up in the community.  Many students have commented that they didn't like this idea.

Discussion:
How did this part of the book make you feel and why?
Could you accept a "replacement child" in your family?  Your school?  Why?
